In 1871, the Gasthaus Waldegg was established in Horw – at a time when the region around Lucerne was developing significantly both economically and socially. The Gasthaus served as a popular meeting point for travelers, craftsmen, and locals. With its traditional charm and inviting atmosphere, the Waldegg quickly became an integral part of social life in Horw.

In 1934, the house was expanded with an addition, in which the Arvenstube, preserved to this day, was created.

With the construction of the drinking hall in 1941, a covered seating area was also created in the garden, which has since invited people to linger.

In 2011, the Gasthaus zur Waldegg was taken over by the LUMEGA Family under the leadership of Peter Lustenberger and was extensively renovated over the following two years. In addition to the venerable Arvenstube, an à la carte restaurant, the Lucerne Stübli, and the Pilatusstübli were created. The latter was designed as a new banquet room. At the same time, the Waldegg Bar received a modernization.

In 2014, the hotel area was expanded and transformed into a boutique hotel with a 3-star standard and contemporary comfort.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel wing was expanded and equipped with a new entrance and a guest elevator. Since 2022, the hotel has 35 superior rooms and three family rooms/suites on the beletage.

Use of Resources

With our own photovoltaic system, we harness the full solar potential and consistently rely on renewable energies. Thanks to minimal energy consumption according to the Minergie standard and continuous energy monitoring, we ensure a positive operational balance.

Out of consideration for the environment, the bed linen is changed twice a week as standard during longer stays. More frequent changes are of course possible upon request.

We offer our guests an authentic experience and consider regional suppliers and craftsmen:
- Whole milk from local farmers
- Homemade jam with fruits from the area
- Mountain cheese from the Sennerei Grund
- Free-range eggs from Bachmann in Malters
- Selected meat products from Hardy Studhalter in Horw
- Fish from Seinet Comestibles Lucerne

Social

The education and training of people is close to our hearts. That is why we are committed, together with our neighbors – the Brändi Foundation and the Blickfeld Association – to support programs for young people with disabilities. Our goal is to create and maintain protected jobs in a family environment in the long term.
